Exile from Georgia
Many people are familiar with the term “Trail of Tears.” Most know that it concerns the forced relocation of Native peoples in the 19th century. But what were the events leading to the trail? Did Native people have a choice? What did they lose? And what happened to them afterwards?
This new exhibition will offer a fresh, powerful exploration of the Cherokee and Muscogee removal story through the eyes of those who were involved.
The challenge: to create an exhibition without objects. Our solution was to create a timeline organizing the complex events and characters leading to removal. And then immerse visitors in the journeys of those who were forced to leave.
