Shaping a New World
For this first phase of renewal of the Museum’s History Hall it was important to introduce a fresh visual aesthetic and a new interpretive approach. The result is a bright, modern space with opportunities to explore, touch and interact.
Our first move was to create an “advanced organizer” – to prepare visitors for the entire experience of the hall. This is done through a horizontal video wall presenting twenty iconic stories told through voices, film, images and quotes.
The Car Trip of the Catastrophes is an articulated shelf running along two sides of the space. Visitors follow a route around Washington encountering landscapes shaped by cataclysmic natural forces. The trip is punctuated by delightful sketches and objects. The centrepiece of the exhibition is a display showcasing the Wenatchee Clovis find – an archaeological treasure dating back 12,000 years. Visitors explore the exquisite stone point horde through a series of simple interactive devices.
